All Inclusive To Cuba Questions and Answers

Resolved Question: Tropical or UK Vacation?

I'm planning my college graduation gift to myself right now and I am trying to decide what I should do. I am either thinking of an all-inclusive tropical resort (ie. Bahamas, Cuba, Jamaica), OR, a UK trip to check out England, Scotland, and Ireland. For the UK trip the cons that set me off are: it would be with a tour company that apparently is very "student oriented" - and many of the students are there to party. I'm there to see the sights. For the Tropical trip - I recently did Mexico a couple of months ago, and I absolutely LOVED it, but I would hate to have high expectations for another tropical trip and be let down. I would be doing this trip with my sister, and both of us are not extreme partiers (we do enjoy the odd night out with drinks to get silly every now and then, but we're not your beer bong, hooking up, puking type of girls.) So what does everyone think? I'm just looking for suggestions right now. Thanks!  more

Voting Question: Where is the best place to stay in Cuba for a group of 21-year-olds who want to party and relax?

We are planning to go to an all-inclusive resort and since we are students, we would like to keep the cost relatively low. Voting Question: Best All-Inclusive, 5 Star, Reasonably Priced Holiday Destinations?

We're looking for a reasonably priced, 5 star, all inclusive holiday in September. We're not really fussy about where we're going as long as it's going to be hot (and minimal rain.) We've looked at the Caribbean but it looks like there's a possible chance of tropical storms and hurricanes, so we're not really willing to take the risk, we're wanting definite sunshine! We're wanting to avoid places like Turkey, Spain, Cyprus and Greece because we've been before and want something a little bit different. Hoping to spend no more than £1000 each and I feel this is reasonable considering we're missing silly-season of school holidays. Any suggestions? Egypt? Cuba? Goa? PLEASE HELP!,x  more

Resolved Question: mombassa.. safety for british tourists?

Hi there My boyfriend and I were going to go to cuba in november but we are concerned about the weather there in november so we are going back to our original idea of going to the (i think it's called sea and sands) resort in mombassa. A few ppl have told me it is dangerous there for tourists due to terrorism and violence, and also for maleria and so companies like Monarch stopped going. Can anyone tell me what this violence was about and if it affects ppl in all inclusive beach resorts? Should we stick to the Caribbean? Thanks we have never been longhaul before so are a bit nervous!  more

Resolved Question: Where is a cheap place to honeymoon?

I'm leaving from Toronto. I'm looking for an all-inclusive package. The only thing I can find is Cuba and the Dominican Republic. I just want to know if there are other options? Resolved Question: I want to honeymoon in Cuba with my American husband. How should we do this?

We're getting married in Canada, as that's the place of my residency. So we will be able to fly from there. But is there a legal way for him to do this? I know he can apply for a license, but I don't think he qualifies for it. If there is no legal way for him to go, what is the best way for him to pull this off without getting in trouble? I know not having his passport stamped is one of them. If he does get caught for going to Cuba, but doesn't buy anything because our vacation was all-inclusive, will he be fined or anything? Well, we're aiming for cheap. It's either Cuba or the Dominican Republic. Cuba is our back up plan, but I want to be prepared just in case.  more

Resolved Question: Has anyone ever herd of s-trips for grads to Cuba? Are they reliable? Priced well?

I go to a high school in Halifax, NS, and our student council was recently approached by a representative for s-trips. We chose to get more information on a grad trip to Cuba for next year. They told us that for each student it would cost $1340 a student for an 8 day, 7 night all inclusive trip. I was wondering if this is a good price, and if anyone has ever herd of s-trip before.  more

Resolved Question: Help for planning a trip: Cancun, Mayan, Jamaica, Dominican Republic, or Cuba?

I am planning a surprise all-inclusive trip at a beach side resort for my wife and I. This will be the first major trip we have taken without kids. The problem is, I can't make up my mind exactly where to go. I have narrowed it down to Cancun, the Mayan Riviera, the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, or Cuba. I know she would love to go anywhere. Any thoughts on any of those places would be greatly appreciated... Just a couple of points of clarification; I am looking for an all-inclusive at a 4 or 5 five star resort. I don't plan on leaving the resort while we are there. Also, we are Canadian, so the issues with Cuba go away completely. I am looking for anyone who has been to any of those places -or know someone who has been to one of those places, who can give me an informed opinion on what they like/ didn't like and compare it to the others.. Thanks so much for the answers so far!  more

Resolved Question: All inclusive vacation in Cayo Coco Cuba?

My boyfriend and I are leaving for vacation march 8, neither one of us have been there before, so we are oblivious as to how it will be. We were wondering what sort of items to bring as tips, our travel agent informed us that tipping was frowned upon in Cuba and they'd much rather little items to take home to their children of many. Also, anything in particular to pack, amounts of money suggested to bring, and how the weather SHOULD be would all be appreciated greatly.  more

Voting Question: Way's to convince my parents?

My mom was talking about a family vacation for this summer, my father doesnt care where we do, neither does my sister. My mother suggests we go to Cuba for two weeks. Resolved Question: is Cuba; specifically Havana, safe to visit?

I am planning on travelling to havana at some point this year however nothing has been booked as yet. In view of the recent circumstances with guevera stepping down and his son taking over, the fact that they are a comminist nation plus so poor that guns are pretty much cheaper than some foods, do you think that it is a safe place for tourists. i have been advised by a friend, albeit quite an exagerator, that it is not safe to be there for long, and that if i turn down a wrong street expect to have people with AK.47s just standing there!! Im not particularly faint hearted, and wouldnt usually mind going to a poor nation like this however my friend has made me a little concerned. we are planning travelling all inclusive therefore much of our time will be at the hotel, however we would love to see the old town etc. thanks in advance - sorry for the rambling. Thomas R - didnt know that!!! thankfully am from UK though  more

Resolved Question: Tipping at a cuban all-inclusive resort?

My wife and I have booked a week at Sandals Royal Hicacos in Cuba for the 23rd of February. I have done much research on the resort and others because we are first timers to the all-inclusive Caribbean travel. I am getting a lot of mixed views on 2 certain Q's on sites such as tripadvisor and so on. I am hoping to find some help here if you could be so kind. Q #1) My travel agent says to tip in Canadian Dollars which I believe is not so, because I think the loonie or twonie is virtually useless to the cuban staff as they cannot exchange coins. So I guess my Q is....What currancy?..How much?.. and How often? Q #2) We have a gardenview suite which is the low end I think. This dosen't matter to us since we don't intend on being in our room much. But again our agent says there is a stocked (weekly) mini bar fridge in this room. When I checked this out it shows nothing for gardenview but in the premium and concierge have them. So my Q ....Is there a stocked fridge in the gardenview suites and if not can we get it stocked? Thank You much for any help, and any other tips would be appreciated too.  more

Resolved Question: Hotel Emergency - any advice?

We had a massive mix up with our planning for this Cuba trip - 2 of our group of 20 ended up at the wrong hotel... With it being a holiday I can't do anything about it today and we leave on Sunday. How is Cuba when it comes to switching hotels and visiting and such? I've heard rumors about it being easy to switch from one to the other, day fees for all inclusive rights at a different hotel, and the hotels being very co-operative with one another if patrons want to switch... please only answer seriously, thanks!!  more

I'm staying at an all-inclusive resort, so my food and lodging will be taken care of. I'm just wondering what sorts of prices to expect when buying a cigar or a bottle of Havana Club.
