Recording Musicals Questions and Answers
Open Question: Which plot idea sounds best (easy 10 points)?
I'm currently revising the plot for my story Hey There Delilah (just a working title). I'm not sure which idea sounds best. They're basically the same, except, in #1, Lilah & Chuck are best friends and in #2 they do not know each other. It's very simple, just pick EITHER plot #1 or plot #2. -------------------------------------- CHARACTERS - Lilah: Delilah Kate Hepburn, English, just turned 17, just received driver’s licence, reckless, moved up 1 year in school because of her high IQ, in her final year at Northlake School’s Sixth Form, unsure which university she wants to go to, dark hair, green eyes, tall and slim, “scene” fashion sense, likes alternative-rock, parents are divorced, lives with her psychotic mother Claire, their vicious cat named Muffy, and Lilah’s secret puppy named Secret, upper-middle class, neither popular or unpopular, dreams of a career in biochemistry, stressed about university, limited musical skills, good singing voice, best girl friend is wannabe actress Blue Taylor, dating Peter Clarke though they have little interest in each other Chuck: Charles Mason Grace, American, 18, careful driver, almost shy, funny, attractive, not unpopular but unknown, brown hair, tall and slightly muscular, average style sense, loves all types of rock music, secretly good at singing and playing guitar, lives with his overly laid back parents in an apartment, working class, stressed about the record company’s response to his demo, on the baseball team but only because his dad is the coach, best friend is Peter Clarke, dating Blue Taylor though they have little interest in each other PLOT IDEAS: #1 - Lilah and Chuck are best friends, with no intentions of becoming lovers. Chuck is in a relationship with Lilah’s best girl friend Blue and Lilah is in a relationship with Chuck’s best guy friend Peter, although none of them really want to be. They travel from their London home to New York City on an end of year trip with their class, but when they arrive they are told that their excursion has been cancelled and they only have one night in New York before they go home. After deciding that they may as well enjoy themselves if they only have one night, Blue & Peter steal a car to take Lilah, Chuck and themselves on a whirlwind trip around the city. In amongst crazy fun activities such as singing at a famous nightclub, having a shot-drinking contest and going to central park, Blue and Peter hook up with each other, leaving Lilah and Chuck relieved rather than upset. It is then that they realise they would rather be with each other, though they are both too scared to admit it to each other. After losing their fake Ids, their friends and their car, Lilah and Chuck make their way back to the hotel (at the other end of New York City) and figure things out between them. #2 - Lilah and Chuck do not know each other, but are the best friends of each other’s partners (Blue being Lilah’s best friend & Chuck’s girlfriend, and Peter being Chuck’s best friend & Lilah’s girlfriend). They find themselves becoming friends when they go on their end of year school vacation. I need it to at least have instrument loops or virtual instrument. It also needs to be able to record voice and musical instruments clearly. Does anyone know if this software exists? And if it does where to find a free download?? moreOpen Question: Why is Sgt. Pepper's the "most influential/best album of all time"?
I REALLY like it and I think it is amazing from a musical standpoint but I can never find out specifically why people think it is so good or revolutionary or influential. Is it the recording? the songs themselves? I love it but I can't figure it out. moreOpen Question: Please listen to my audition song?
Hi - just wanted critique for the song I'm using to audition for a musical theatre camp. I chose 'The Beauty Is' from Light in the Piazza. I recorded myself singing it a cappella - so PLEASE excuse the random gross notes, etc. Here's the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A4D935_BQ8M I sang it through twice - just because..? IDK (I think I like the second one better.... but I'm not sure. I just feel like the ending especially is nicer to listen to. Hm... What you do think!?) I know some notes here and there are kind of fail -but I'm looking for a really harsh critique! Diction? Interpretation? Dynamics? ANYTHING YOU CAN THINK OF!! Thank you so much. :) (Oh - haha. And my awkward throat clearing. You can just ignore that, too.) moreOpen Question: Connecting Musical Keyboard To PC?
Okay I asked about this before and the first answer I received was the best, and by the way whoever posted that I did vote it the best but didn't get to it in time, I got busy sorry. So now I have installed a couple of MIDI recording software programs onto my PC. The first one I tried was Multitrack but every time it was open it would mess up the sound on my PC. So I tried a second one called Anvil Studio, that one doesn't mess with the sound, it seems to record, but I can't hear music playback in Anvil Studio, or with windows media player. Anvil Studio did prompt me that I did not have a soundcard with MIDI port out and I am not sure how to get that, or perhaps I need a different connection all together. My keyboard only has a host connection and a USB connection though. Any Suggestions? Audacity won't work with my keyboard. I have Finale but the record option does not work for my keyboard in that program. Thanks for the suggestions though. Also, Anvil Studio does have a composition option and I can see it recording the notes to the staffs but it does not playback the music so I can edit it. moreOpen Question: Where Can I Listen To A Recording Of The Song "The Staircase" From The Titanic Musical?
Where Can I Listen To A Recording Of The Song "The Staircase" From The Titanic Musical? I don't care if it's a video of a school play performing it. I just want to hear it. Here are some of the lyrics if that helps. "Jim Farrell? Are ya down there? It's Blocked up here, we can't get through. What the hell are we supposed to do? Jim Farrell wher've you gotten to?" Some more info to help you find it: In the Musical, It was sung by the character's Jim Farrell Kate Murphy Kate Mullins Kate McGowan moreOpen Question: What's the name and author of this voiceless musical track?
Whenever I hear favorite tracks that have no lyrics or voices in it, it's gonna be even harder to find. This time I had the opportunity to hold up my recording player against a celling speaker and here it what it sounded like. http://www.esnips.com/doc/a3d89632-eba9-4fc2-a8e7-321b4762e20f/Mystery-Track-2 Please note that other background sounds are not the part of the music. This was played from a used computer store I work at. I have purposly added skipping to it in an audio editor for an attempt to find out what this whole unknown music track sounds like. moreOpen Question: When people sing in musicals do they know they are singing?
See I was watching Rent (no homo) and they are all singing during that AIDS group counciling and Mark is recording them and I thought are if he sends that in to a news station would it show up as singing or talking? And the same for any other musical! moreOpen Question: What is blackmail and how do you file the charge?
An engagement was mutually broken. I had been on the lease for another 6 months and offered to stay in the spare room to help still pay the rent and bills. The woman threw me out saying she would slam a doorknob of her face and say I hit her if I did not leave. She kept all my belongings and threw me out right there. For the next 6 months i had to pay her half my income and the rest to my new rent. I could barely afford to eat every other day. Everytime I said I could not pay the rent she threatened to tell her 7 uncles that I beat her and forced her into sex acts that she didn't want. I was scared out of my mind, MA is strict about that stuff, even with no witnesses a woman can have you jailed if she says you hit her. Yes iv owed money before, but 15% is the max you can take from someone that owes, she was taking more than 50% of my income a month. I would have paid if I had the money, but I had to find a new place, if she let me have the guest bedroom I would have stayed there and paid all the bills. She also threw out over 3,000 dollars worth of my musical instruments and recording equipment. Iv paid her over 4,000 grand in the past 6 months solely because I was afraid she would bring me false incarceration or have me jumped by her uncles for things I never did. 4 grand, not 4,000 grand, lol id never make that kind of money, sorry for the typo All my friends ask, how did you let this happen, for future advice to all, controlling relationships and psychopaths act normal in the beginning, then they slowly show you their true side. moreOpen Question: What does it take to be considered a musical genius?
do you have to be able to write music? Should you be expected to be able to play more than basic guitar? Does it take more than a pleasant voice and good rhythm? Should you be multi instrumental? Be able to write your own lyrics in your own style? Produce, record and mix music? Have 29 albums out in 3 decades? I think Prince was more of a musical genius them Micheal was . He can't keep up with him on the moves or the timing and unmistakable voice . But he does have a much more overall creative talent . Agreed ? Disagreed? Why didnt Michael have more than 6 albums worth of material in the same amount of time? moreOpen Question: I want to record my songs in my room, what do i need?
Good day to all,i would like to do home recording, may i know what do i need?I have written some songs and i would like to record a demo, i would like to record my vocal/violin/piano/guitar and keyboard.I just bought a midi cable for my keyboard and i'm getting a Sony recording mic soon. Can i use that mic to record my musical instruments? There is a really good record producer coming to our stage school, everyone in my singing class have been told to audition, but I really have no idea what to sing. He is a modern producer, so R&B, Pop, maybe rock, even musical theatre I suppose. I really love singing 'Good Morning Baltimore' from hairspray because it suits my voice exactly, but I wanted maybe a newer more emotional song. Please give me some ideas..? Thanks, Kate X moreVoting Question: What do you think of this cover?
I did an instrumental cover of the song Postcards from Italy, by Beirut. It's my first cover, and my first attempt to record anything, so I was wondering if you could give me some advice, not only in musical terms, but also about the programs I could use to edit the songs better (since I've used Windows Movie Maker - it sucks). Link to the cover: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WGmLVliUBwU Link to the original song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2cQsuc2Mmsc&feature=channel Please be constructive, not offensive. When she first found out that i was pregnant she was REALLY extatic. She immediatley said "Oh if you have a girl, you should name her Harmony!!" (which is the name she had picked out for her "future daughter). I told her i'd think about it. Turns out, the more i gave it some thought, the more i REALLY fell in love with it. So i decided that i might name my baby that if she's a girl, or at least use it as a middle name. About a week later, i told her that yes, i think i'll use that name and she immediately said "no, no, forget it, don't use that name, that's the name i want to name my child in the future." To make things more complicated, my husband is REALLY picky with names and when i told him about Harmony, he fell head over heels over the name and loved it right away. So now i'm stuck. Til this day she still says she wouldn't want me naming her that and it's been 2 months now. She's 18 by the way and says she doesn't plan on having a until she's around her mid 20s. She doesn't even have a BF yet. For the record, i have attempted finding other female names that i'd like that are musical (since i'm a singer) and NONE of them are better than Harmony in my opinion. Jesse, sadly, i have spoken to her about the possibility of her not even having a girl in the future and she says that there is NO way she's not having a baby girl!! Gotta love her! I LOVE the name Melody as well, but my other daughter it as part of her name...lol type-O "has it as part of her name" You all have been a great help in your advice and suggestions. I truly appreciate you all taking the time to read my novel and answer my question! lol moreVoting Question: Will i get into Boston University?

People talk about Michael Jackson like he was a musical prodigy who could do everything from a young age, but Stevie Wonder is the true musical genius because can truly do everything except dance. Wonder was a better live singer than Michael Jackson - He was a more talented vocalist. Jackson lip synched a lot because he wasn't a great vocalist. Wonder could play many instruments at a top level from a young age - Piano, harmonica, synthesiser, Drums, Talk box etc. Jackson couldn't play a single instrument. Wonder was an amazing songwriter. Jackson was an amazing songwriter too but he didn't write all his hits. Wonder wrote all of his hits. Wonder was a genius producer - He was extremely good at bringing things together and composing a record. Jackson relied on Quincy Jones to do all of the producing. Jackson would have been nothing without Quincy Jones. Michael Jackson got more attention because he was more controversial, but in terms of talent and accomplishments Wonder was greater. moreResolved Question: how do i start a career at 37 singing hymns?
I am a 37 year old female who always wanted to produce my own worship cd. Having no experience but is passionate in singing traditional hymns since early childhood. I know I still need voice training but realize that I would never know what its like if I don't try. Most of the ancient & modern hymns I know by heart all versus. I also sing & feel more passionately with the organ and or any musical background. Singing hymns is my way of speaking to God and feeling closer to God. I would like to sing in cathedral one day but I'm too shy to make a first step. I read the previous answer of someone saying that record companies won't even look at me without previous experience-well it does put me off to a certain degree, but for some reason I still believe if you really want to do something and believe in it, you can achieve it. Maybe sometimes you allow circumstances (being in a new country & finance) to limit your dreams & passions. Please advise. moreVoting Question: What classes should I take in high school?
I'm going into grade 11 and I have huge musical ties and it's my life I know just about everything with music as someone should. Anyways I'd like you know what classes I should take so I could get into collage or university for becoming a recording engineer or a recording producer? I am a solo musician who would rather record and play music himself rather than trying to find a band with similar musical tastes/musical vision. I want to record songs that i have written by methods of cheap home recording, so that at least i can have them down and develop them. Would a drum machine be helpful in this? or would i be better off recording live drum beats or programming on a recording program myself? Are drum machines programmable, that is can you create your own drum loops? I would much rather record from a live drum machine than program the drum beats in a recording program, as I am also going for a rawer sound. recommendations of specific drum machine models would also be very very helpful thanks :) I was browsing around on the internet and i realized i had a completely different visual for "drum machine" in my head...i imagined a sampler or sequence or something like that? like the AKAI mpc's? what about those? moreVoting Question: Is Michael Jackson ALIVE and hiding in North Korea?
Think about it.... 1.) Death was the only way he could escape the HUGE DEBT he was under. 2.) Death was the only way he could escape more than 10 years of BAD PRESS and negative publicity. Instead, the media would focus on his musical accomplishments and what made him great. 3.) Death would MASSIVELY boost his record sales and benefit his estate. 4.) He is exactly the sort of narsaccist who would REVEL in seeing the world's reaction to his passing and all the tributes that would flow. ^^^With all this in mind, do you think he's actually defected to North Korea where he's teaching Kim Jong Il how to to Moonwalk? Ok, I'm looking for a software that makes music but you don't need any special equipment. I want to make a few musical albums but I can't for the fact I have no band or a perfect microphone or recording software -I'm currently using Audacity and it isn't perfect. But I know there is software out there that uses different instruments that all you have to do is just compose a piece of music with your mouse. Does anyone know of any good music composing softwares? I have a Dell Windows Vista PC moreResolved Question: "To play music" in Spanish?
I know tocar is used to describe someone playing music, but I've always associated tocar with musical instruments. My spanish speaking friends also use tocar to describe playing music- such as putting on a CD or a record. I'd use poner for that one. So who's right? How would a native speaker translate: I'm playing this brilliant new record by Jack Peñate at the discotheque. ? muchas gracias @Cazzface: I hope you did well on the GCSEs. you're probably really glad that they're all over! @Cazzface: I hope you did well on the GCSEs. you're probably really glad that they're all over! moreVoting Question: How common is it in the record industry for a major-label artist to have 100% creative control, contractually?
I'm also curious whether there might be differences for different types of artists. For example, if I owned a record company there is no way I'd give control to most rock bands, who are often drunken adolescent-minded chaps who might each have different artistic visions themselves. But what about someone like Regina Spektor, a responsible individual who clearly has the creativity and musical knowledge to make all the decisions on her own? moreResolved Question: what do you think of this music essay?
Rate me A,B,C,D,F. i have already posted this but now i am finished, im an 8th grader and my teacher asked us questions of a career and she told us to write an essay. help yourself to giving me criticism. Music Producer By: Karen Sandoval The two professions I considered were working as a publicist or a music producer. a publicist generates and manages publicity for someone like a celebrity, or for a work like a book or film. A music producer is the creative leader of any studio, film, television or radio recording project. Though these choices are both very good careers I have chosen music producing. I have chosen this career because it would be fun working with music and making a new sound. I do know that it takes a lot of work, like being on a hectic schedule, dealing with budget pressures, and finishing a song on time. Some reasons for my choice are that I would get to work with some musicians, and making someone’s dream of maybe becoming the next biggest hit. A music producer needs to be a people person, be a charismatic person, and to be able to relate well to your recording artists. I would also enjoy it being remunerative, but I would need to work hard to do so. If I have to I could get things done and organized quickly. I love music but it would a challenge to open up my imagination, and be creative in order to keep coming up with songs, as a result of being on a hurried schedule. Music producers assure that a project stays within budget, secure a studio time, aid artists in choosing songs to record and help give them a quality performance, help audio engineers in the mixing, mastering, and recording process. Managing a high school band, writing some songs, experience in playing a instrument would all be really good experiences for becoming a music producer. Music club, band, orchestra, performing arts would be good clubs in high school, but it is not mandatory. Music production, Musical History and Theory, Composition, Songwriting, Ear Training, Copyright Law, Finance and Marketing, Entrepreneurship course would be helpful for up incoming music producers. All these things would be a good preparation for people who want to be music producers. Ultimately, becoming a music producer would be a good career for me, because I would be able to work on the things I love and benefit from it also. Music producers have an important job in the recording industry, second only to the artists themselves. Music producers oversee all aspects of a recording session to the financial matters and everything in between. moreResolved Question: If after thirty years we cannot fully trust the information regarding Elvis Presley and his life...?
...how can people expect to believe a book that was written over two thousand years ago which has no evidence outside of itself to support it? “The King of Rock and Roll” Elvis Aaron Presley died at the age of 42 on August 16th, 1977. He was born into a time where most people around him were literate. We have many first hand accounts about Elvis Presley’s life as well as many reliable records such as musical, medical, dental, marriage and death certificates, and even photographs of Elvis on a stretcher in a morgue. With all of this evidence there a hundreds of thousands of people who believe Elvis Presley is still alive. There are a multitude of books written by people who actually knew Elvis Presley that contain conflicting information concerning his life. In the book Fit for a King: the Elvis Presley Cookbook by Elizabeth McKeon, the author reveals the recipe for Elvis’ special fried chicken: “3/4’s cup of flour Salt Paprika Pepper” (McKeon, 115). In Are You Hungry Tonight: Elvis’ Favorite Recipes by Brenda Butler, the same recipe for Elvis’ special fried chicken is: “1/2 cup of flour Salt Pepper” (Butler, 27). Notice that one recipe calls for a quarter more flour and paprika while the other does not. Why are there two different recipes for the same fried chicken? Again...if we can't trust some of the information regarding Elvis Presley and his life...how are people expected to believe the Bible is actually true? yes sir peanut butter bananas bacon bread make the sandwhich and grill them in 2-3 tablespoons of butter they're extremely stuffing do not eat more than one at a time it'll mess you up mythos i never said i did where did you come up with that assumption? hey clover it's not me that's interpreting the recipe wrong it's one of the authors of the books moreResolved Question: How much is this document worth? The Who contract.?
I recently obtained a 1973 vinyl record of The Who. In the record sleeve I found a handful of documents from the 1960's. One was a contract for The Who to play at Woodstock on August 16, 1969. It's a contract between Premier Talent Associates, Inc. and Woodstock Ventures, Inc., to take place at the Aquarian Festival Grounds in Wallkill, New York. Dated 27th June 1969. I want to get the document appraised. It looks like an original contract complete with signatures. Also I found a Court Summons addressed to Mr. Kit Lambert, who was The Who's manager at the time, regarding stolen musical equipment and trashed hotel rooms. There are a few other documents that are very interesting. I've never taken a document to be appraised and I dont' have any idea how to go about it. Does anyone know how I could find an appraiser who is authentic and won't try to rip us off? Or if these documents might even be worth anything? Since 2004 or so, it seems like most "rock" music has that sludgy, post-grunge production to their songs - i.e. slow all the way through, semi whiny singing, lightly distorted guitars, no tempo changes or musical solos. I mean Snow Patrol or any of the American Idol guys, like Daughtry and David Cook, personally I think that stuff is so dull and boring (it's like if Dave Matthews picked up a guitar LMAO). The record companies probably try to make any mainstream male singer/band that's even remotely rock, try to sound like Nickelback since they've decided "that's what sells". There's other types of rock that are popular, but it doesn't get on the radio as much. Even though alot more people seem to like it, ironically! I've almost never met any Nickelback fans, but lots of Killers fans. moreResolved Question: Is this breaking "girl code"?
Hi, Let's say my name is Purple. My best friend, Pink, has been dating a really nice guy for about 6 months. he's amazing to her, and they're taking it slow (we're only 13, he's almost 15). Her bf is very musical and so am I. He also lives about a block away from me. His family loves me. they also love her. Kay so we are writing a song together (the song's about Pink, anyway) and I think Pink may be jealous. This is petty but, I used to be right after her immediate family on Myspace (we're BEST friends!) and she changed it to her bf. She's been acting weird around me for a while, and seems...i dunno distant. There was also something of a scare a bout a week ago. An older girl was hitting on the bf, but he handled it EXTREMEMLY well, and was 100% faithful to Pink, he reeaaallly likes her. Do you think Pink is jealous of me? For the record, I value Pink's friendship more than any guy and would never go out with her bf, before or after they're dating??? moreResolved Question: Do you think I'll get the lead?

Usually, punk bands and their record labels love to release some of their songs for free all the time. Punk bands also usually sign to independent labels and don't like major labels, but they usually start going downhill if they do sign to a major label.
