In the simplest terms, a guitar tab is a word that is used to describe a musical notation, which may contain either numbers or letters and explains to the musician where to place his/her fingers on the student guitar. Guitar tabs are made up of six lines that is often called a “staff notation”.Each separate string on a guitar is represented by a line on the guitar tab.New musicians often find guitar tabs to be especially baffling in that the strings are written backwards. The first thing you think of when you think about acoustic instruments is likely the acoustic guitar. What most people do not know is that “acoustic guitar” is a retronym. Until electric guitars were invented, they were simply called guitars. The differentiation was necessary upon the invention and adoption of the electric guitar. Something else people probably don’t know is that there are actually quite a few distinctly different types of acoustic guitars. The four main types are nylon or gut s moreGuitar Lesson- Get your guitar in tune

Ashley Thomas This article is all about going through the process of making your own electric guitar. Many people have no clue as to what all is required to make their very own electric guitar. What makes Jimi Hendrix’s sound easily recognizable from Carlos Santana? How can you easily tell metal from funk, even if let’s say the metal player and the funk player are playing the same song (very unlikely, but bear with me here)? The answer: guitarists use effects to color their sound and give it a kind of modification suited to the type of music involved. Normally these effects can be housed separately in small effects pedals, or in multi-effects hardware, or built into amplifiers, or simu moreKorg GA-30 Ultra Compact Guitar and Bass Tuner

Open Question: Instrument Questions!!!! :0?
Ok well me and my friend are big music people. We are both in the chorus program in school, and we both love to learn to play instruments. I play the piano (well.. keyboard. My parents are too cheap to by me a REAL electric piano, or something with dynamics and pedals) and I can play the flute. My friend can play the guitar, piano, and the base. We came up with a few questions: 1. If I were to take the strings inside of a baby grand piano out, would i be able to play it like a harp? 2. What group is the piano in? We can't seem to figure this one out on our own, seeing how the hammers hit the STRINGS, and you hit the keys, but it is a "string" instrument. 3. This one sounds a little stupid, but hey, we don't know the answer. If we were to tune the 4 strings, and could find a bass only song, could we use a violin or a viola as a guitar-ish thing? moreOpen Question: 7-string electric guitars?
I have been using 6-string guitars for a year and a half now. I am starting to feel really limited because I have gotten so much better. I have tried playing a 7 string 8 months ago @ Guitar Center, but it was out of tune and plugged into an amp that I don't like. I play a bunch of stuff that's being labeled as 'deathcore.' I am mostly playing Dean guitars, but am deciding to go for a more pricey guitar because I have played more expensive guitars that sound so much better. My maximum price I'd pay for a guitar would be around $1000. Which 7-string guitars should I try out? P.S. I don't know if I should include the type of amplifier I use because I know different amplifiers plus different guitars equal unique sound, but I use a Line 6 Spider 3 amplifier if it helps choosing one of the right guitars for up to the price I mentioned. moreResolved Question: What's the best electric guitar for playing metalcore music?

My mom bought me a new 80$ electric guitar for christmas, and so far I'm loving it. I play about 3 hours a day, and me and my friends are starting a band, but my guitar is falling apart. I goes out of tune ever 20 minutes, and makes a nasty cracking noise when it does. some of the frets are warn down and buzz all the time, and only one of the pick-ups work right. Well, I wanted to make sure my acoustic guitar was tuned right, so I have a electric tuner that came with my guitar. I do not know how to use it though. Hi! I just bought my first electric guitar the other day. For some reason, it sounds like an acoustic guitar. The sound I'm looking for is alternative/punk rock, specifically for Green Day, Evanescence and Paramore's music. I've adjusted all of the guitar's and amp's settings except for the guitar's tuning knobs. -I do not know ANY terms for the guitar. So if you could define terms as you go along that'd be great. - Amp wattage is 10, it's a Squier. There's an Input plug for the guitar, volume, a "clean/OD" switch, treble, bass, volume and headphone plug-in. - Guitar is a Fender. There's a volume knob, 2 tone knobs, some weird thing that moves and has a triangular tip and a plug for the amp I was told to get a distortion pedal. Would this do the trick? moreVoting Question: How can you down tune a Floyd Rose Tremolo System on an electric guitar?

My electric guitars strings are all sounding wierd. I have an electric tuner that tells me that I tuned them all perfectly in standard but all the frets sound one fret higher than they are. For example, 9 sounds like what 10 is supposed to sound like and 10 sounds like 11. This goes across all the strings. I can still play all the songs I know by moving one fret down but I would still like to know what's wrong. moreVoting Question: can I use a 0.010 string to replace my 1 string on my electric guitar?
I have a electric guitar and I woke up to find the 1string broken on it. When first got it the same string broke and I replaced it with the spare it came with. The only thing I have to replace it with is a 0.010 string. Could it be used the same as the 0.09. Could I tune it to be the same string in the place of it.I'm new at the guitar and have been learning for going on 4 weeks this month. My guitar teacher had just tuned it and the next morning it was broke. The 1 string or 1st is the bottom smallest string on the electric guitar.I need it for E, F, and G notes. moreResolved Question: I want to learn to play electric guitar, what's the best way to teach myself?
Can anyone recommend any books or websites or anything that they've found useful? I am not really musically inclined so I'm not great with tuning but I can get someone to teach me that, but I'd really like to learn this summer and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions? Also, if anyone has any websites that you know sells cheap guitars, ones for beginners because I don't want to spend heaps before I know how to play, could you please let me know. Thanks in advance :) x moreVoting Question: How accurate are electronic guitar tuners for acoustic guitars?
I got an acoustic guitar a few days ago and used the electronic tuner that came with it to tune it in. When the green light shines, this means it's tuned in. Now this is my first guitar and don't understand too much about them or about tuning. But by playing the strings one by one and by watching a few videos I am starting to understand the concept. The problem is however, these guitar tuners tune acoustic guitars using the built in microphone (electric guitars plug in to them) which picks up the sound. Immediately I question the accuracy of this, but the main reason I do, is that I tune it in, play on it a little bit, then check if it is in tune again and it's showing either too high or too low slightly. It's pissing me off as I keep having to tune it in. I have tried tightening the knobs that you turn to tune it in as they were pretty loose, but even after that their quite easy to turn. I'm thinking it is either the tuner that's crap or is it that when leaning against something the knobs are being knocked slightly, or maybe it has something to do with the fact the strings are new?? moreVoting Question: Am I too old to take guitar lessons?

I picked up a used Yamaha RGX420 electric about a year ago as my first guitar, and have been playing almost every day. I've been thinking though that the music I play is more suited to an electric acoustic. Basically I just play on a clean channel now and play solo acoustic versions of rock or punk songs, and also old country or folk tunes. About a week ago I was at the local music store and the owner was encouraging me to get a Seagull he had there. I don't remember the model except that it was a performer series with a cutaway, very light in color with a built in chromatic tuner. I thought it played really nice, but then again I don't know much about what makes a good guitar. What my question comes down to is this... Would that particular guitar, in the $650 price range, be a good choice for a guitar I would be happy playing for many years? I want to spend the money now to get a high quality instrument that I don't feel like upgrading from in a couple years. I'm thinking in the 600-900 dollar range? Bass Guitar?
I'm so confused on what to get. Both cost $1000, give or take <$100. Yamaha P-140: I love the sound a keyboard/piano gives. I'm not an adept at piano at all, but I've been playing every now and then since 1st grade, and I also know enough of the basics for self-teaching. I've had a teacher for about half a year. According to my old music teacher and parents, I would've excelled piano if I kept practicing. Unfortunately, I was too stubborn and impatient during a lesson on time signatures that I almost stopped playing entirely (I was about 9-10 years old). Playing the piano became really sporadic, and I became focused at school and other things. -I love the sound of composers like Chopin, Joplin, etc., but I myself cannot play much, and due to education reasons (long studying hours), I don't think I have the time to learn. -I'm a little slow at reading notes since I stopped my playing, but I'm a fast learner, so all I can do is just keep practicing. But self-teaching myself a bit after homework is not much of practice... -A relative plays the piano, and I know that she would love it if I had a piano in the house. My dad also wants me to get a piano, saying that it is a "gift". Honestly, I don't have the inspiration to play the piano, and now, it doesn't feel like a "gift" at all. w/e bass I feel like getting: As mentioned earlier, ever since a family member got two guitars (acoustic and electric) and another managed to get drums, I was thinking of getting a bass. I've been interested in the bass even before that, and I love the sound of it. I've had experiences with string instruments, mainly acoustic guitar, but I'm no master at it, like how I am with a piano. Again I just know enough of the basics for self-teaching. I can also just pick this up and play a simple tune. It'll also be nice to have a new instrument to use. Honestly, I want a bass... but I'm being pressured to pick the keyboard... they both are wonderful instruments in my book... ______________________________________________ I have a pretty bad "indecisive" personality, so help me out here. ;A; I'm also being really pressured to make a choice. Most of it is from me, but my dad is also. But really... I think both are WONDERFUL instruments... moreResolved Question: Question about a guitar-set up!?
After changing the strings on my guitar (Electric), I've been having problems with the bridge. The strings are not too tense, so obviously i did something wrong. Whenever i tune to standard, my bridge is being pulled out of the guitar. I tried adjusting the springs in the back, but it does very little to help. So I've heard about people getting their guitars set-up. Does this service include adjusting my bridge, changing strings, adjusting/adding springs and adjusting the action? Also, how much does this usually cost? moreResolved Question: My guitar string won't tune.....?
I was tuning my guitar (with an electric tuner) because one of the strings is way out of tune, and I can't fix it. I will turn it one way and then the tuner says it's as flat as the string will go, and I tune it the other way and it's as sharp as it will go. It won't even allow me to get close to what the string is supposed to sound like. Is it broken and I just don't know it? moreResolved Question: Im new to guitar, I have an acoustic and everyday i have to retune it?

This is happening with both of my guitars, one is electric* and the other is a shoddy old acoustic that ive had for quite some years now. The electric was also recently restringed however I recall the A chord always having sounded abit dodgy. They are both in tune according to my tuner and the other chords played on them sound fine. Is there something up here? Or just my ears... *epiphone les paul moreResolved Question: How to tune an electric guitar?
im a beguinner and i have a good amp and a digital tunner but : do i do it just like an acoustic guitar with the tunner ? now i have to use the amp too? moreVoting Question: Is this a legitimate alternate guitar tuning method?
For instance, If I use a basic standard electric tuner and want to go to one half-step lower on all of the strings, would it be recommended to fret the first fret on each string and tune to standard while holding those notes? I've been doing this lately to go into lower tunings, but I'm a novice and I am not quite sure if it's a good idea. moreResolved Question: Electric guitar conversion RH to LH what problems ?
Has anyone done this or know of someone doing it and was it satisfactory ? I have been told it messes up the intonation, a bit hard to follow this, you would think as long as the strings have the appropriate tension they must be in tune, been told not so, as you travel up the neck it runs out of tune, the other irritation is the 2 string guides near the tuning area would need changing around, I know it would need the bridge adjusted, but not too clued up on this yet, any replies appreciated.
